Root Canal Treatments

Root canal treatments, also called endodontic treatments are dental procedures that are often advised to manage an existing infection, a tooth with an irreversibly damaged pulp or to prevent an infection in a tooth that has died or become non-vital. The procedure makes it possible to save a tooth and may be the most suitable alternative to having a tooth removed.

The procedure is straightforward and not painful. In fact Kathryn has had patients fall asleep in the chair whilst undergoing root canal treatment. The process involves clearing out the nerve and blood supply to the tooth and cleaning the root canal system.  This does not affect the long term health and function of the tooth.

Initial Consultation: £80

Treatment from: £410

Whilst a root canal procedure may seem scary, with today’s technology it is a comfortable and straight forward experience.

Many people are worried that a root filling will be painful although in all honesty, it should be a painless experience. Whilst a root canal procedure may seem scary, with today’s technology it is a comfortable and straight forward experience.

It should not feel any different from having a deep filling as a local anaesthetic is used to numb the area.

The length of time required for treatment depends on the tooth being treated.  In some instances, treatment can be completed in one visit of around an hour long. This is often for front teeth with an uncomplicated root system.
Large teeth with a more complicated root system or with other associated issues may require more than one visit.

Kathryn will talk you through the procedure and make sure that you are as comfortable as you can be throughout your treatment.  Following a root canal procedure, it may be advisable to have a crown placed to support the strength of the tooth and prevent further breakdown or fracture.  Kathryn will talk you through this and advise whether it would be the best long-term option for you.

This treatment may not be appropriate for every patient and it is conditional on a satisfactory assessment being carried out.  Many cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and veneers, composite bonding etc require that you are dentally fit prior to embarking on treatment and this may mean that other treatments need to be carried out first.

All options that are appropriate to your needs and requirements will be discussed with you in order to help you to make an informed decision about what will be in your best interest.
