Sleep Apnoea/Snoring

Is snoring keeping your awake? Do you or your partner struggle to sleep well because of snoring? Have you been observed holding your breath during your sleep? Do you feel sluggish and tired during the day?

Snoring and sleep apnoea are sleep-related breathing disorders that result in partial or complete airway obstruction during sleep. These conditions can have a significant impact on your quality of life. Snoring has been proven to be a significant factor in relationship issues and can lead to serious sleep deprivation for the bed partner of a snorer.

Excessive daytime sleepiness due to insufficient oxygen and poor-quality sleep can also lead to noticeable effects such as:

  • inability to concentrate

  • poor memory

  • reduction in performance

  • falling asleep unexpectedly

  • increased risk of road traffic accidents

There are also a number of health conditions that have been closely linked to snoring and sleep apnoea, including stroke and heart disease.

Sleepwell-SleepApnoeaAppliance

There are certain risk factors that make you more likely to be predisposed to these conditions and Kathryn can carry out a simple pre-screening questionnaire with you to determine the likelihood of you having or being at risk of developing a sleep-related breathing disorder.  She can also assess the likely severity of your condition.

Based on this Kathryn will recommend treatment that is appropriate for you.  This may involve the inclusion of other medical professionals if it is likely that you have moderate to severe sleep apnoea.

Alternatively, she can offer proven solutions with the provision of a mandibular advancement appliance called the SleepwellÒ.  This is the most user-friendly, technically advanced anti-snoring device on the market with a success rate of over 80% in fully apneic patients.  Due to being comfortable to wear and easy to adapt to, this device is able to be tolerated by 98% of users which is considerably higher than a number of other comparable splints.

If you or your partner suffers from snoring or sleep apnoea, arrange a consultation with Kathryn to discuss your options further.
